Gold Coast’s #1 Family-Owned Music School
Welcome to Hanlon School of Music (HSM)—the Gold Coast’s most trusted, award-winning music school, where kids don’t just learn music—they love it! As a family-run school with deep roots in the local music scene, HSM isn’t just about lessons. It’s about building confidence, creativity, and lifelong skills through the power of music.
Why Parents Choose HSM
Finding the right music school can feel overwhelming, but here’s why Gold Coast families trust HSM:
Award-Winning & Industry Recognised – We’re the ONLY music school that’s a major sponsor of the Gold Coast Music Awards, giving our students exclusive opportunities to reach the highest level of achievement in the local music scene.
A Legacy of Musical Excellence – The Hanlon’s are a Gold Coast born and bred family, shaping the Goldy’s music culture for three generations, performing, mentoring and inspiring since the 1970s.
A Fun & Modern Approach – Learning music should be exciting, engaging and rewarding—not just about reading notes on a page. Our hands-on, creative approach keeps students motivated and loving every lesson.
More Than Just Lessons—Real Gigs & Performances – HSM students don’t just practice in a room—they get real stage experience at major Gold Coast events, building their confidence while learning what it’s like to play like a pro.
A Leading Music Hub for Young Musicians
Music education should be inspiring, immersive and community-driven. In 2025, Hanlon School of Music refreshed its entire space, creating an even more inviting and creative environment where students feel comfortable, motivated and excited to learn.
Passionate & Experienced Teachers – Every instructor at HSM is not just a talented musician, but also a dedicated mentor and educator, ensuring every student receives the highest level of guidance. All teachers hold up-to-date Blue Cards and insurance, prioritising student safety and professionalism.
Exclusive Student Opportunities
HSM provides performance experiences that no other music school offers, including:
Term Video Performances – Students showcase their progress through professionally filmed performances shared with families.
Mini Concerts – Intimate performances where students play live for family and friends, building confidence in a supportive space.
Public Performance Opportunities – Students gain real-world experience performing at community events and Gold Coast venues.
Workshops & Creative Meet-Ups – A collaborative space where young musicians from across the Gold Coast can rehearse, jam, and write music together.
HSM isn’t just a music school—it’s a cultural hub where young musicians connect, create and grow, developing skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

A message from the owner.
"I created Hanlon School of Music because I wanted to have a place where children and adults could learn music in a creative and inspiring environment, that is different from any other music school. I believe that music is important for a healthy mindset and I wanted to create a sanctuary where people could learn and grow in a positive environment.
As an orphan and solo father, I understand how hard life can be, and I believe that music can help people cope with difficult times. Music can help improve cognitive skills, help develop creativity and self-expression and provide a sense of community and belonging.
I am grateful for your support of Hanlon School of Music, a small family-owned local business. We appreciate your belief in our mission and we are committed to providing our students with the best possible musical education."
