How long are the lessons?

Music lessons can be 30 or 60 minutes in length. This includes time for unpacking the instrument, getting settled in the lesson area, and any conversations between the instructor and student or parent.

How are the lessons scheduled?

Lessons will be held every week at the same day and time. Having this consistent schedule is the most effective way to steadily improve on the instrument.

What instruments can be learnt?

We teach the following: Drums, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Singing and Production (Ableton Live).

What do the lessons aim to help with?

Our teachers have many years of both teaching and performing experience, which is vital in creating a successful and well-rounded educator. Under their guidance, students will learn the necessary skills to perform, understand and love music, including: Performance and audition preparation, technique building, tone production, improvisation, theory, and much more.

What age do lessons start?

We cover all age groups with our private tuition.

We’re located in Miami on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.

Do you have specials for more than one student?

We have a sibling discount. 5% off each sibling on every lesson.

Can you prepare students for exams and audition pieces for School, University or TAFE?

We do. In the past we have helped students achieve all their AMEB and gradings. In fact, HSM helped prepare an audition piece for one of our past students into Berkeley Collage, Boston and he is now currently in his third year.

Do you hire or sell instruments?

Currently we don’t hire or sell instruments. However, all HSM students receive a 5% discount from Gold Coast Music in Southport when you mention you’re from HSM. Or you can head to hanlonschoolofmusic.com.au and purchase from the online shop.

Do you sell sticks, picks and strings?

We have a limited stock of sticks, picks and strings.

What ages do you teach?

Generally, starting at 5 years old.

However, this depends on the students ability to focus for the minimum time (30mins).

Do we need our own instruments?

Yes and no.

We would love every student to become more intimate with their own instrument. However, setting up and packing down can be time costly so we provide full acoustic drums, upright piano and a microphone with a PA for singers.

For your first few lessons on Saxophone, Guitar and Bass Guitar HSM will provide one during lesson to learn on then the student is required to have their own so they can practice and become more familiar (HSM has a limited stock of guitar and bass guitars to purchase).

What if I don’t own an instrument for home?

We understand that instrument can be expensive to purchase when a student is trialing. However after a few lessons we think it’s best on purchasing your own instrument to practice on.
